Turmeric Latte Two Ways

The one thing I’m obsessed with is hot drinks. When I have to sit on the chair and look at the computer screen the whole day, then I probably drink up to six or seven cups of different warm drinks in a day. Crazy, right?! Don’t worry it’s not coffee all the time. Probably, it’s the cold weather here, but I just like those creamy drinks. It has that something that makes me smile. I can warm up my cold hands while I’m thinking. A warm cup is all I need to focus for some hours while I’m doing my Uni work. Okay, maybe I need some nuts or raw chocolate as well.

Since I’m a little bit too addicted to coffee, then I had to find an alternative. One cup of coffee is usual for me, but when I would like to drink three cups of coffee in a day, then I feel like it’s getting out of my control. Quite often I replace it with tea. However, it apparently doesn’t satisfy my cravings. Over the years I have experimented with all kind of different hot drinks. My favourites are matcha latte and this turmeric latte (little hint: I have some more creative drink ideas, but I’ll leave them for another time).

Anyway, turmeric latte is one of my favourites. The best part is the creamy texture and all the health benefits that I get out of this drink. Turmeric is one of the bests ingredients to fight autoimmune diseases, diabetes, skin problems, cancer and obesity. I had noticed that my skin went better when I started to use more turmeric in my food and on my skin. Turmeric is an anti-inflammatory like garlic and ginger, which means that it helps to reduce levels of inflammation in the body and is beneficial for overall health. Also, it has a good effect on physical and emotional health. Turmeric works like an antidepressant and keeps our mental health in balance.

1 cup

Time: 5 minutes

Ingredients:

  • fresh grated turmeric (1,5 cm peeled piece or 3/4 teaspoon turmeric powder)
  • fresh ginger (1 cm peeled piece)
  • ½ tsp coconut nectar or honey (optional, quite often I don’t add any sweetener, when you are on a keto diet, then leave it out)
  • ½ tsp almond or cashew butter (optional)
  • 1 cup cashew or coconut milk (or 1/2 cup milk and 1/2 cup water when you don’t like it that creamy)
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp vanilla bean powder

Instructions:

  1. Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.
  2. Warm up the latte in a small pot. Serve with extra cinnamon and extra warm cashew milk if desired.

However, since we are getting closer to summer, I thought it was time to share my iced turmeric latte recipe as well. The ingredients are the same, but the only difference is that it’served with ice.

  • ½ tsp coconut nectar or honey (optional, quite often I don’t add any sweetener, when you are on a keto diet, then leave it out)
  • ½ tsp almond or cashew butter (optional)
  • 0,75 cups cashew or coconut milk (or 1/2 cup milk and 1/2 cup water when you don’t like it that creamy)
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp vanilla bean powder
  • 6-7 ice cubes

Instructions:

  1. Place all ingredients (except for ice) in a blender and blend until smooth.
  2. Warm up the mixture (you can serve it right away. However, I recommend to make warm because you will get a better texture for the latte). Let it cool down a little bit.
  3. Fill your glass with ice and pour the latte on top. Serve with extra cinnamon if desired.
